Memo on Meeting Notes Distribution
Happy Easter Local 5121,
Regarding the distribution of General Membership Meeting notes, some members have requested when and how they will get meeting notes after a General Membership Meeting. I obtained clarity from our staff representative Aisha Persaud during this past GMM meeting.
As per our Staff representative, meeting notes can only be distributed to the members once they have been voted on in the following GMM meeting. For example, the meeting notes for the GMM meeting dated March 6th 2025 would have to be voted on in the next GMM meeting for distribution which took place this past week April 16th 2025.
Unfortunately, we also need a quorum to be able to have the meeting be deemed official. We also need quorum in order to vote on important issues, such as the distribution of meeting notes.
In this past meeting dated April 16th 2025, we did not meet quorum so unfortunately the meeting notes that have been completed for the March 6th GMM could not be voted on for distribution to the members. Additionally, since we did not meet quorum this past meeting (April 16th 2025) this meeting is deemed as “unofficial” and therefore notes will not be distributed for this meeting.
This highlights the importance of obtaining a quorum during our General Membership Meetings. The current LEC are diligently working on how to make our meetings more accessible to a larger number of members. To lend your voice during LEC meetings, request to become a Shop Steward as our LEC meetings are conducted alongside our Shop Stewards.
I hope this provides clarity regarding the procedure of meeting note distribution.
Secretary Announcement – Launch of New Website
Good morning comrades, my name is Saxon Murphy, your Local Executive Secretary.
I am pleased to announce that the previous Local 5121 website has been upgraded to create transparency, accessibility and inclusivity of all the members.
New features that were not present on the previous website include Bargaining Updates, downloadable documents you can place on your own union boards, a Newsletter page, a Meeting Minutes page, a News page, and also an Events page.
I encourage all members to look at the events page to see if any upcoming union-related events speak to you. Additionally, keep an eye out on your Local’s Newsletter that will be released shortly.
As your Secretary, I will be diligent in updating this website with the most current information. This allows ALL members to access this information without limits such as how much union board space you have, or missing an update because you may not be in a certain whatsapp group, or in none at all. Also these updates will not get lost in chat or if you missed an email, all of my Secretary-related correspondence will be posted on the. “News” page of the website.
So when I know something, the first place I will now be sending updates personally is the Local 5121 Website because ALL workers can access it easily. So keep checking back for more updates. Also, don’t forget to bookmark.
